Your charcoal 411: benefits, recipes and more

Charcoal shots and charcoal cold pressed juices are some of my favorite go-tos – which many of you know. However, it’s not just about drinking your favorite juice shot with activated charcoal or picking something up from Pressed Juicery anymore. Try one of these recipes to add a little kick to your next meal!

Charcoal is known for many benefits, including stomach pain relief (bloating, gas, etc) because it acts as a digestive in helping to clear out your system. It can also be used as a facemask to help clear out your pores and in toothpaste to help whiten your teeth (it may seem counterintuitive, but it works if you dab it onto your teeth, let it soak up the stains and then rinse your mouth out (source).

Charcoal was also used as a medicine in the older days to help people with detoxes. (As always, while I love charcoal and definitely believe in its benefits – I don’t have an MD. Be sure to check with your doctor before making any dietary or medicinal changes in your routine for medical benefits!)

Charcoal and clay facemasks are extremely easy to find on Amazon and can do wonders for clearing out your pores. Or you can try your own homemade mask and add a few capsules of activated charcoal (Click here for a list of charcoal beauty projects).

If you can’t make it down to Frankie and Jo’s, try your own charcoal ice cream recipe – it’s definitely my favorite (vegan) flavor! (Click here for a recipe: regular | vegan)

Use your favorite pizza crust recipe and add a few capsules of activated charcoal for health benefits

Spice your waffles up with a little bit of activated charcoal using this recipe (click here). The recipe is essentially your basic waffle mix recipe but with 12g of bamboo charcoal powder added – so you could even try out your favorite waffle recipe with just a little bit of charcoal added to give it a twist.

Got a hangover? Try this: 1 pitcher of water 2 juiced lemons (or lemon juice equivalent) 1 tsp of activated charcoal 2 tbsp of maple syrup or alternative sweetener ice, lemons
